Curve Lake First Nation – January 2016

For over 70 years Students from Curve Lake First Nation have been going to Lakefield District Secondary School. In 2016 the School board has recommended that they close LDSS and bus the students to a high school in Peterborough. The students, community and parents were not happy with this decision and in order to give some of the Curve Lake First Nations students a way to show their feelings about pending the school closure Tillikum Lens and ISEF partnered with Curve Lake Community Programming.

Seven students from Curve Lake First Nation shared their feelings about LDSS through photos they specifically took to focus on the school closing.  It was created by Mindy Knott in partnership with the International Sustainability Education Foundation and Curve Lake Community Programming.

Here are the student images from the exhibition held at LDSS on January 22, 2016. The exhibition was open to the public and over 75 people showed up to see the students work and to talk with the students.

Media coverage of the exhibition can be seen here.
